Gutter repair cost
By Gutter Report Editorial. Last reviewed August 2026. How we research this.
In brief
Most gutter repairs cost $100 to $450. The national average is $275. The floor is a minimum service call, at $75 to $200. The ceiling is about $850. What you pay depends on the job, not on the gutter. Resealing a leaking seam runs $1.50 to $6.50 a foot. Re-sloping a run that holds water is $75 to $200. Re-hanging a sagging section is $75 to $300. Patching small holes is $100 to $225. A second story roughly doubles any of these, because you are paying for access and time. Compare all of that to a full replacement at $2,200 to $5,000. Repair is usually the right answer. Three things change that, and this page names them: rotted fascia, a joint you have already sealed once, and a job that has grown past a third of the system.
1.0What each repair costs
| Job | Cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum service call | $75 to $200 | HomeGuide |
| Reseal a leaking seam, per foot | $1.50 to $6.50 | HomeGuide |
| Whole-job sealing, 150 to 200 ft | $150 to $400 | Modernize |
| Re-slope or realign a run | $75 to $200 | HomeGuide |
| Re-hang a sagging section | $75 to $300 | HomeGuide |
| Patch small holes | $100 to $225 | HomeGuide |
| Downspout repair | $20 to $100 | Fixr |
| Hangers, per hanger (materials) | $2 to $3 | HomeGuide |
| Fascia behind the gutter, per foot | $6 to $20 | HomeGuide |
Note how many of these land under the minimum service fee. That is the single most useful fact on this page. A contractor is not going to drive out, set a ladder and reseal one joint for $12 of sealant. If you have one small fault, either bundle it with a cleaning and an inspection, or accept that you are paying for the visit rather than the work.
2.0Cost by length and by height
| Length repaired | Cost |
|---|---|
| FT | USD |
| 10 feet | $75 to $170 |
| 20 feet | $120 to $350 |
| 30 feet or more | rises toward the $850 ceiling |
| House height | HomeGuide range | HomeAdvisor average |
|---|---|---|
| One story | $100 to $300 | $170 |
| Two stories | $135 to $500 | $330 |
Two publishers, two methods, the same conclusion: height roughly doubles a repair. That is worth knowing before you read a quote and assume you are being overcharged.
3.0When repair stops being the answer
This is the section the rest of the page exists for, and it is the one that costs us money to write. Repair is right until one of these is true. The full test, symptom by symptom, is on repair or replace.
The fascia has gone. Gutters hang on the fascia board. If that wood is soft, no hanger will hold and re-hanging is throwing money at a symptom. Fascia runs $6 to $20 a foot to replace, and once you are opening that up, replacing the gutter at the same time costs far less than doing it as a separate job later.
You have resealed the same run before. A joint that opens twice will open a third time. Sectional gutters have a joint every ten feet or so, and each one is a candidate. This is the argument for seamless when you do replace: no joints along the run at all.
You are patching more than about a third of the system. At 30 feet and up, repair pricing climbs toward the $850 ceiling while a full replacement starts around $2,200. The gap closes fast, and at the end of it you own a repaired old gutter rather than a new one.
Where the publishers disagree here
The averages are close, which is unusual and reassuring: HomeGuide $275, Fixr about $307, Angi $390, HomeAdvisor $399. The ranges are wider apart than the averages, which is the normal pattern when publishers survey different contractor mixes.
One figure we deliberately do not print. A widely circulated per-foot repair range of $4 to $18 is attributed to a major publisher, and that publisher never printed it. The page it is taken from gives $4 to $8 as a low-end figure and $18 to $30 as a high-end figure, in separate sentences. Somebody spliced the two floors into a range. We caught it while checking sources and left it out.

Common questions
How much does gutter repair cost on average?
HomeGuide puts the national average at $275, in a range of $100 to $450, with a $75 minimum and an $850 ceiling. Angi says $390, HomeAdvisor says $399, and Fixr says about $307. The averages sit close enough to trust the shape: most repairs are a few hundred dollars, not a few thousand.
What is the cheapest gutter repair?
Resealing a leaking seam, at $1.50 to $6.50 per linear foot of the run being sealed. Most jobs never reach that per-foot math though, because contractors have a minimum service fee of $75 to $200 that swallows a small repair. If you only have one leaking joint, ask what else can be done in the same visit.
When is repair the wrong answer?
When the fascia behind the gutter has rotted, when the same run has been resealed more than once, or when you are patching more than about a third of the system. Fascia repair alone runs $6 to $20 a linear foot, and at that point you are paying replacement money for a gutter that is still old.
Why does the same repair cost more on a two-story house?
Access. HomeGuide prices one-story repairs at $100 to $300 and two-story at $135 to $500 for the same kinds of work. HomeAdvisor sees the same pattern in its averages, at $170 against $330. Nothing about the gutter changed. What changed is the ladder, the time, and the risk.
