Seamless gutter machines

By Gutter Report Editorial. Last reviewed August 2026. How we research this.

In brief

A seamless gutter machine is a portable roll former. Flat metal coil goes in one end and finished gutter comes out the other, cut to the exact length of your wall, on the driveway. That is why seamless is contractor only: there is no product to stock, because every piece is a different length. New Tech Machinery publishes 2026 prices, and they are lower than most people guess. A 5 inch K-style machine is $8,900 alone, $9,800 with a shear, and a 5 and 6 inch combo runs $12,300 to $16,300 depending on what comes with it. A trailer set up with accessories is about $19,000. Box gutter machines are a different world at $71,600. Knowing the numbers is useful for one reason: it tells you what a contractor had to commit before they could offer you seamless.

1.0What the machines cost

These are New Tech Machinery's own published 2026 figures for its MACH II K-style line, by configuration.

Configuration5 inch6 inch5 and 6 combo
USDUSDUSD
Machine only$8,900$10,500$12,300
With shear$9,800$11,500$14,500

Reel stand, reel, coil cradle, shear$11,300$12,900$16,200
Two coil cradles and shear$11,400$13,000$16,300

The manufacturer summarizes the band as anywhere from around $9,000 to $18,000 or more for standard machines, and upwards of $70,000 for box gutter machines. Its BG7 box gutter machine is listed at $71,600.

Read the trailer line next to the machine line. The forming machine is often not the largest item in the kit. A working seamless setup is the machine, a shear, reels and stands, and something to move it all, and the transport can cost more than the former.

2.0What actually happens on your driveway

The process is simple, which is why it works outdoors in a few minutes per wall.

  1. Coil is loaded. A roll of flat painted aluminum sits on a reel stand at the back of the machine.
  2. The strip is fed through forming rollers. A series of rollers bends the flat strip into the K-style profile, a little at each station.
  3. Length is measured. A counter tracks the feet coming out, so the wall length can be dialed in rather than eyeballed.
  4. The shear cuts it. One finished gutter, the exact length of your wall, with no joint in it.
  5. Ends and outlets are added. End caps, miters and drop outlets are fitted and sealed by hand. These are still joints.

One consequence worth understanding as a buyer. Because the gutter is made to your wall, a mismeasure is a wasted piece of coil rather than a piece that gets trimmed and joined. That is part of why seamless installers measure carefully and why remakes cost them real money.

3.0The coil, and what it tells you

Gutter sizeCoil widthYield at .027Yield at .032
INFT / LBFT / LB
5 in. K-style11-3/4 or 11-7/82.6532.238
6 in. K-style152.0781.754
7 in. K-style18not given1.477

Those are Englert's yield factors, and Spectra Gutter Systems publishes matching numbers. They explain the price step between sizes better than any cost guide does. A 6 inch gutter is formed from 15 inch coil against 11-3/4 for a 5 inch, which is 28 percent more metal per foot. That arithmetic is ours, and it lines up with the roughly 30 to 40 percent price step measured at retail on the 6 inch page.

Coil thickness is the other lever, and it is the spec most often missing from a quote. Englert supplies gutter aluminum at .027 and .032 inch. Spectra recommends .027 for mild to moderate climates and .032 where there is heavy rain, heavy snow or frequent severe weather. Ask which coil is on the truck.

Why this machine is the reason seamless is contractor only

Every other decision on this site is something you could buy either way. Material, profile, size, guards: all of those exist as products on a shelf. Seamless does not, and the reason is mechanical rather than commercial.

  • There is nothing to stock. A seamless gutter is made to one wall on one house. A store cannot carry a product whose defining feature is that it does not exist until it is measured.
  • The kit is not rentable in practice. Machine, shear, reels, stands, correct coil width and a vehicle. A manufacturer trailer with accessories is about $19,000.
  • The commitment sorts the trade. A contractor who has spent $9,000 to $18,000 on a former works in gutters. That is a weak but real signal, and it is the only useful thing this page tells you about hiring.

The specification writes it as a rule too. Englert Section 07712 requires all gutters to be in continuous length for each elevation, with no end laps allowed. Roll formed 5 and 6 inch K-style runs up to 40 feet, per the KM Sheet Metal submittal drawing, which covers most elevations in one piece. The 4, 7 and 8 inch sizes are brake formed and stop around 20 feet, which is why seamless in practice means 5 or 6 inch.

4.0What it does not tell you about a contractor

Owning a machine means a contractor can offer seamless. It does not mean the gutters will last. The things that decide that are hanger spacing, slope, and whether anyone checked the fascia before hanging anything on it.

Ask the questions that do predict the outcome. What hanger spacing do you use, and what changes it in snow? What fall will you set, over what length? What thickness of coil is on the truck? Is the fascia sound, and how do you know? Those are on gutter hangers, gutter slope and how installation works.

5.0You may not need seamless at all

Seamless costs $3 to $5 a foot more than sectional, per HomeGuide, and on a short run that premium buys very little. On a garage, a shed or a porch, a machine setup costs more in time than the removed joints save, and sectional is the sensible answer.

Sectional also wins on repair. Damage a 10 foot section and you swap a part. Damage a seamless run and the length usually comes down and gets rolled again, because there is no joint to cut back to. The full trade is on seamless against sectional.

And if you are here because a gutter leaks, the seam may not be the fault at all. A sag is a hanger, overflow is slope or outlets, and a repair at a national average of $275 covers most of it. We can say that plainly because we do not sell gutters, we do not install them, and we sell no machines.

Common questions

What does a seamless gutter machine cost?

New Tech Machinery publishes its 2026 prices. A 5 inch K-style MACH II is $8,900 for the machine alone and $9,800 with a shear. A 6 inch is $10,500 and $11,500. The 5 and 6 inch combo is $12,300 and $14,500. Fully equipped with reel stands, reels, cradles and a shear, the combo reaches $16,300. Its BG7 box gutter machine is $71,600.

Why can I not buy seamless gutter at a store?

Because it is not a product until it is made at your house. A roll former takes flat metal coil and shapes it into finished gutter, cut to the exact length of your wall. There is nothing to stock, because every piece is a different length. That is the whole reason seamless is contractor only, and it is not a skill barrier or a licensing rule.

Can I rent a gutter machine?

Rarely, and it is a poor idea even where you can. The machine is one part of it: you also need the right coil width for your gutter size, a reel stand, a shear, run out stands and a vehicle that can carry the whole set. Manufacturers sell trailers fitted with the accessories for around $19,000, which tells you what the working kit looks like.

What coil does a gutter machine run?

Coil width matched to the gutter size. A 5 inch K-style is formed from 11-3/4 or 11-7/8 inch coil, a 6 inch from 15 inch coil, and a 7 inch from 18 inch coil. Yield is published by weight: at 11-3/4 inch width, .027 aluminum gives 2.653 feet of gutter per pound and .032 gives 2.238.

How long can a seamless gutter be?

Long enough for most house walls. Roll formed 5 and 6 inch K-style is available in lengths up to 40 feet, per the KM Sheet Metal submittal drawing. Sizes that are brake formed rather than roll formed, which are 4, 7 and 8 inch, top out around 20 feet. That is why seamless in practice means 5 or 6 inch.

Does having a machine make a contractor better?

It makes them able to offer seamless, which is a real difference, and it tells you they work in gutters rather than treating it as a sideline. It says nothing about workmanship. The things that decide whether your gutters last are hanger spacing, slope, and whether they checked the fascia, and none of those come out of a machine.
